“Arséne Lupin isn’t just a book. He’s my heritage. My method. My path. I am Lupin.” ― Assane Diop.

If you know me well enough, I have over-explained my love for Sherlock Holmes.

I am a big fan of the Big Three, which in my opinion are Arthur Conan Doyle, Agatha Christie and Jules Verne. The characters created by these three are unforgettable and have made a lasting impact on the world of literature.

Imagine my joy when I discovered a gentleman thief, a French gentleman thief, ‘Sherlock would love this’ I thought. The hype had just started for Lupin and I decided to watch it before the hype overtakes it. I also did a bit of research and discovered that a book about both of them had been written.

What a feast!

However, I wanted to be true and watched the series first, I did and it was fabulous, the acting was on point, and I loved everything. Gave Season 1 four stars and jumped up to get the books.

I was sorely disappointed, I know it was written in French and then translated into English but the version I had was so horribly translated that I got pissed off. It did not make sense and I just pushed it out of my book mind.

Then Part Three of Lupin came out and it brought back such painful memories again, while this one wasn’t as exciting as the first two, it was still a great work of art.

The gentleman thief Assane Diop (Omar Sy) is as charming as ever. In this season he hopes to reconcile with his ex-wife Claire ( played by Ludivine Sagnier) and his son Raoul (Etan Simon), he plans to carry out one final, high-stakes heist, in the hopes of securing a fresh start with his family. But with all good plans, there was a splinter waiting to clog up the works. Regardless, it was an interesting watch and I look forward to the next season.

I decided to give Arsene Lupin another go and look for a good translation even if it is just to read the Sherlock vs Lupin book. So far, I think I have found a good one. I will give an update when I am done reading it.

This series gets 4 stars from me.

Would I recommend it? Yes.

PS- For Raoul‘s sake though, I hope this ‘gift’ isn’t hereditary.

Naturally curious. Book nerd. If I can make you go, 'I didn't know that', then I have done my part.
